Another good one!
Sep/13/2007 11:12 AM
Sorry for the delay this week. I had to go out of town and won’t be home till Friday.
Session 8 was another good one! The ‘chalk talk’ was understood by many and clearly displayed on the ice as we saw some immediate results during our scrimmage. But, it still needs a lot of work!
Session 9 will be a ‘controlled scrimmage’ with coaches on the benches and I will be on the ice. The coaches will have whistles on the bench and can stop play at any time if a situation warrants some discussion. There will also be an extended ‘chalk talk’ to summarize last weeks ‘talk’ and to discuss ‘
Transition Hockey’.
I feel that the progress made by the individual players in sessions 8 & 9 will determine the winner of the Blue – White Cup game! So, you won’t want to miss session 9!!! (and, DON”T forget what you learned in session 8!)
Common mistakes made by FORWARD’s:
NOT playing your position
TOO long of shifts
Wingers not covering your ‘point’
Skating with the puck when you should be passing
Not moving the puck forward
Blind & cross ice pass’s
Not going ‘wide’ into the offensive zone
Poor shot selection
Common mistakes made by DEFENSEMEN:
Stickhandling out of zone instead of passing
Not getting into the offensive zone in time
‘Holding’ the offensive blue line too long
Playing the PUCK instead of the MAN (or Woman) & being patient
TOO long of shifts
Rushing the puck into the offensive zone too often
Shooting too high
There will be no Golden Rule this week as I left them at home…. Sorry!
